DEUX
Our dog, Deux, is 1 1/2 years old and has already proven to be the
best dog we have ever had. Not only does he keep us in stitches with his many
antics, but he has proven to be helpful on the farm as well. He makes
more different sounds than any dog I've ever heard. He loves to sing along with
us when the mood strikes him. And he has been known to answer "uh-huh" when
asked if he wants to go out. (Which made my friend about die of laughter when
she heard it)
He gets a little annoyed if we sit at the computer too long and
whines, etc. When you get out of the chair he pops right on up and sits in front
of the computer like its his turn! My son, David, has a sound effects cd and
when he puts on the howling wolves Deux is in his prime yipping and howling
right along (our puppy, Scooter, runs and hides!)
He has alot of energy due to the
fact he's a border collie/husky cross. He loves to play catch and can often
catch it midair after the first bounce. He also loves to be with the cows and
sometimes he'll sit half the day just watching them like he's their guardian or
something. He has his favorite cows, too. If you are watching you'll see him
licking the cows nose and the cow licking him back. One day I was looking out my
kitchen window and I saw him running as fast as he could toward the house the
whole herd of heifers chasing after him like he had stolen their food or
something. When he got closer to the house I saw it was a chicken in his mouth
(the neighbors had lost some while exchanging old birds for new). I went out to
get it from him and the hen was still alive (though a bit frightened). Over the
next few days he brought me four live hens. I guess he thought they were mine
that had escaped! He has also done a great job protecting my garden from cows.
The year before we got him the cows got out and totally decimated my garden
uprooting carrots, stomping tomatos, knocking down the corn and eating what they
pleased. Well, not anymore!!! If they get out he's right after them trying to
get them back where they belong-and that means not in my garden!!
Deux also doesn't mind getting a rinse off in the kitchen sink when he's been tromping in the cowyard. (Good thing! Because I have to do it frequently!)
